Who we are

SATIB is the data controller for your personal information. We decide why and how your information is processed. SATIB is registered with the Data Protection Authority (POTRAZ) as a data controller.

Information We Collect

Depending on the products and services you engage us for, we collect some or all of the following:

  • Identity information: full name, date of birth, national ID or passport number, and nationality
  • Contact information: residential and postal address, phone number, and email address
  • Financial information: banking details and income information, where relevant to premium collection or claims settlement
  • Insurable-interest information: details of the vehicle, property, business or other asset you wish to insure, including registration, title or ownership details, and claims and loss history relevant to the asset
  • Additional insured parties: details of named drivers, joint policyholders or co-owners, where a motor or property policy covers more than one person
  • Employment and financial history: where relevant to underwriting, premium assessment or anti-money-laundering checks
  • Driving and claims record: licence details, driving history and prior insurance claims, where relevant to motor underwriting
  • Employee and guest information: limited details of the employees, guests or group members covered under corporate, tourism or group policies

How We Collect Your Information

Most of your information comes directly from you when you request a quote, complete a proposal form, submit a claim, or contact us by phone, email or in person. We also receive information, where relevant, from insurers, underwriters, reinsurers, loss adjusters, assessors and other professionals involved in your cover or claim. If a group, corporate or family policy arranged by someone else covers you, we receive your information from the policyholder.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to obtain quotations and place insurance cover on your behalf, administer your policy and collect premiums, manage and settle claims, provide risk management advice, comply with IPEC’s regulatory requirements and anti-money-laundering law, and prevent fraud.

Under section 10 of the Act, we process non-sensitive personal information with your consent. Your consent might be implied where you are an adult with full legal capacity. Without your consent, we process this information only where necessary to:

  • serve as evidence in proving an offence
  • comply with a legal obligation we are subject to
  • protect your vital interests
  • perform a task carried out in the public interest
  • promote our legitimate interests or those of a third party, provided these do not override your own rights and freedoms

We need your identity, contact and insurable-interest details to obtain quotations, place cover or process a claim. If you do not provide them, we might be unable to provide the service you request.

Sharing Your Information

As an insurance broker, we act as an intermediary. To do our job, we share relevant personal information with:

  • insurers and underwriters, to obtain quotations and place your cover
  • reinsurers, where a policy is reinsured
  • loss adjusters and assessors, where relevant to a motor or property claim
  • IPEC and other regulators or law enforcement, where required or authorised by law

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Your Rights

In addition, where we rely on your consent for sensitive personal information such as financial or employment history or marketing, you may withdraw that consent at any time, without giving a reason and free of charge. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of anything we did with your information before you withdrew it.

You can exercise any of these rights by contacting our Data Protection Officer at privacy@satib.co.zw. We will respond within 30 days. Please note that withdrawing consent or objecting to certain processing may limit our ability to place or administer your cover.

How Long We Keep Your Information

We keep personal information only for as long as necessary to provide our services, meet our regulatory obligations to IPEC, bring or defend a legal claim, and support any ongoing insurance relationship. We typically keep policy and claims records for a number of years after a policy ends or a claim closes, to meet regulatory and statute-of-limitation requirements. Our Records Retention and Secure Disposal Policy sets out the full detail and is available on request.

Cookies and Website Tracking

Our website, satib.co.zw, does not collect or use cookies or similar tracking technologies. If this changes in future, we will update this Policy and provide any notice or consent mechanism required by applicable law.
